Prompt engineering không phải "hỏi cho hay" — nó là kỹ thuật lập trình cho LLM. Cùng một model, prompt khác nhau cho output chênh nhau 40-60% accuracy. Nhưng viết prompt giỏi chưa đủ — bạn cần đo lường output đó tốt cỡ nào. LLM evaluation là bài toán cực khó vì output mang tính stochastic. Bài này đi từ zero-shot đến Tree-of-Thought, từ BLEU score đến LLM-as-Judge — toàn bộ skill set cần cho AI Agent Engineer.

1. Prompt Engineering — Không chỉ là "hỏi cho hay"

1.1. Tại sao Prompt Engineering quan trọng?

LLM là stateless function: output = LLM(prompt). Không có hidden state giữa các lần gọi. Toàn bộ context phải nằm trong prompt. Điều này nghĩa là:

  • Prompt quyết định chất lượng output — garbage in, garbage out
  • Prompt là interface giữa human intent và machine execution
  • Prompt engineering là skill có thể học — không phải "nghệ thuật" mơ hồ

## 2. Basic Techniques — Zero-shot, Few-shot, System Prompt

### 2.1. Zero-shot Prompting

Không cung cấp example — model dựa hoàn toàn vào pretrained knowledge.

Khi nào dùng zero-shot:

  • Task đơn giản, well-defined (classification, extraction)

Cung cấp examples để model hiểu pattern mong muốn. Đây là in-context learning — model không thực sự "học" mà pattern-match từ examples.

Key insight: Số lượng examples ảnh hưởng lớn. 3-5 examples thường là sweet spot. Quá nhiều → token waste. Quá ít → inconsistent.

2.3. System Prompt Design

System prompt đặt global behavior cho model. Khác với user prompt — system prompt persistent across turns.

3. Advanced Techniques — CoT, ToT, Step-back, Self-consistency

3.1. Chain-of-Thought (CoT) Prompting

Core idea: Bắt model suy nghĩ từng bước trước khi đưa ra câu trả lời. Paper gốc (Wei et al., 2022) cho thấy CoT tăng accuracy 10-40% trên reasoning tasks.

3.2. Tree-of-Thought (ToT)

CoT = một chain duy nhất. ToT = explore nhiều branches rồi chọn tốt nhất. Phù hợp cho tasks cần creative problem-solving hoặc planning.

BLEU (Bilingual Evaluation Understudy) đo n-gram overlap giữa generated text và reference text.

8.3. BERTScore — Semantic Similarity

BLEU/ROUGE chỉ đo lexical overlap. BERTScore dùng BERT embeddings để đo semantic similarity — "dog" và "puppy" sẽ có score cao dù không cùng word.

Exam tip cho AI Engineer: Automated metrics là necessary but not sufficient. BLEU score 0.4 có thể là output tốt, BLEU 0.7 có thể là output dở nếu chỉ paraphrase reference. Luôn combine với human eval hoặc LLM-Judge.

9. LLM-as-Judge — Dùng AI đánh giá AI

9.1. Concept & Implementation

Dùng model mạnh (GPT-4, Claude 3.5) để evaluate output của model khác (hoặc chính nó). Scalable hơn human eval, nuanced hơn automated metrics.
